SOFT TISSUE GRAFT

Gum recession is a common problem. It can be caused by a number of reasons, such as aggressive tooth brushing, braces, uncontrolled tooth grinding, or genetics. It is a sign that bone loss has occurred and will progress unless treated, causing painful exposure of roots. Eventually, cosmetic changes or even tooth loss can occur. Regular dental check-ups can help prevent the often undetectable early stages of gum recession, and Dr. Kaufman can help you to identify the cause of the problem. Once the cause is controlled, a soft tissue graft procedure will repair the defect and can prevent further damage. The in-office procedure consists of taking gum tissue from your palate or another site and using it to cover the exposed root. Synthetic materials may also be used.
